Travel Grants for SE European scholars living in SE Europe

The American Institute for Southeast European Studies (AISEES) announces the availability of 3 travel grants per year of up to $2,500 for southeast European scholars affiliated with an institution in their home country and traveling from southeastern Europe (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Kosovo, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, and Slovenia) in support of travel expenses to present original research or organize a session at a professional conference or symposium of international importance within the domains of the Humanities and Social Sciences. Funds are intended to cover the cost of transportation to and from the conference, registration fees, and lodging. The deadline for submitting an application for this grant is February 15, 2024 (extended to Feb. 29).

The conference/symposium must take place outside the scholar’s country of residence and must be of international importance (for example, European Association of Archaeology, ASEEES, American Anthropological Association, Byzantine Studies Association; this may also include one-time or recurring conferences/symposia hosted by a university or an academic institute).

Application instructions: Please send a single PDF containing the following information to us at AISEESorg@gmail.com :

1) Contact information: name, residence address, institutional affiliation, citizenship

2) A statement of approximately 1500 words in which you discuss your research project, the nature of the conference/symposium, and the importance of participating in the conference/symposium to your professional development.

3) A detailed budget of travel-related expenses (airfare/train/bus/car, hotel, conference fees, visa fees) with a maximum total expense of $2500 (please note your budget can be for less than $2500).

4) CV/resume (max. 3 pages)

A letter of recommendation from the head or chair of the applicant’s department, division, or institution should be emailed to us separately.

All information must be received by the deadline (Febuary 15, 2024) in order for the applicant to be considered for the travel grant.  Notification of Travel Grant status will be made available to each applicant via email by the end of March 2024.

Awardees will be reimbursed for their expenses once receipts of airline/bus/train tickets (or e-ticket) receipt, conference fees, and lodging expenses are received by AISEES.
